Law law

Law Law is an Amsterdam-based law firm, founded in 2022 by Marieke Berghuis. Marieke is an experienced specialized attorney in the field of data protection and IT law.

Law law focuses on:

— Organizations that need advice in the field of data protection law, in particular the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
— Law firms that need ad hoc additional support from a senior associate in the field of data protection law, for example in large-scale proceedings.
— Organizations that want to hire an external data protection officer or privacy officer (ad interim) ("DPO as a service").

Marieke Berghuis

Marieke studied Dutch law (2002, cum laude) at the University of Amsterdam, and specialized in Information Law. Marieke worked as an attorney for bureau Brandeis and SOLV, and as a researcher for the Institute for Information Law (IViR), prior to starting her own firm. She also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie.

Marieke Berghuis has registered "data protection law" in the register of legal practice areas (“rechtgebiedenregister”) of the Netherlands Bar (“Nederlandse orde van advocaten”, NOvA). Based on this registration, she is required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year in this legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.

Marieke is a member of the Association of Privacy Lawyers (VPR-A), the Association of Privacy Law (VPR), the Netherlands Association for IT and Law (NVvIR) and the Association of AI Lawyers (VAI-A). The VPR-A carries the specialization association quality mark of the Netherlands Bar.

Law Law does not have a foundation for third-party funds and does not receive third-party funds.

— Strategic advice in the event of personal data breaches.
— Advice on data flows and role assignment, including concrete application of the privacy-by-design principle.
— Drafting procedural documents on GDPR subjects.
— Performing data protection impact assessments (DPIAs).
— Advising on the transfer of personal data outside of Europe.
— Drafting and negotiating data processing agreements.
— Drafting privacy statements and consent texts.
— Advice on cookies and commercial communications (ePrivacy).
— Providing internal training on data protection and the GDPR.

Law Law can offer reduced rates for the cultural sector and non-profit organizations.
